Only the steps that apply to your situation — no generic checklist.
Multi-app income

The three blockers between you and earning.
Most people stall before they start because nobody explains what they actually need. DriverStart walks you through each blocker — in order, only when it applies to you.

A car you're allowed to drive for
Consumer rental apps ban gig use. We connect you with owners who rent specifically to gig drivers.

Coverage that qualifies
Personal auto excludes commercial gig use. We point you to fast rideshare-eligible quotes.

The right platform applications
Different platforms have different requirements. We route you to the ones you actually qualify for.
Questions
What drivers ask before they start.
How much can I actually make?
Most drivers in most markets net $14–$22/hr after gas during busy hours. Peak nights in bigger markets push $18–$28/hr. Slow times and saturated markets can drop to $8–$12/hr. See the earnings breakdown by platform and market.
How fast can I start?
Uber Eats and DoorDash are usually the fastest — 2 to 7 days from signup to first delivery. Rideshare (Uber, Lyft) takes 1–2 weeks because of stricter vehicle checks. Most stalls come from missing documents, not the platforms. See the signup walkthrough.
When do I get paid?
Weekly direct deposit is the default on every major platform. DoorDash Fast Pay, Uber Instant Pay, and Instacart Instant Cashout let you pull earnings same-day for a small fee.
Do I qualify?
Most adults with a license, a phone, and a car or bike qualify for at least one platform. Age, driving record, and background check determine which ones. The requirements page spells out the disqualifiers.
Is this free?
Yes. We may earn a referral fee from some services we point you to, at no cost to you — see our Affiliate Disclosure.
Do you employ drivers?
No. We are a free informational guide and referral service — not an employer or staffing agency. You apply to each platform directly.
I don't have a car. Can I still do this?
Often, yes. Some platforms let you start by bike in dense areas, and we connect you with owners who rent specifically to gig drivers. See car options.
Why do I need special insurance?
A standard personal auto policy excludes commercial rideshare and delivery use. Platforms require coverage that qualifies — a rideshare endorsement on your existing policy is usually $10–$20/month extra.
